Morgan

I went into labour the evening of May 17th. I didn't get much sleep that night. We stuck pretty close to home most of the next day and headed for Foothills Hospital with the midwife at about 5:00pm on May 18th. Morgan was born at 10:42pm on May 18, 2005. She weighed 8lbs 8oz and was 21-1/4" long. We were so happy to meet her! This is a picture of the new Dad.

A video in the hospital. (7.79 MB .mpeg file - kind of big!)

My family camped out in the hall for a few hours waiting to meet Morgan. We did the introductions and then went home at about 2:00am on the 19th.

Morgan's first morning and first afternoon.

We woke up the next morning as parents. Quite and adjustment. In fact, I spent most of that day waiting for Morgan's "real" parents to come and pick her up. Every other child I had ever cared for went home at 3:00 when the bell rang, or had parents who came back from dinner and a movie.

My family came over that evening and brought dinner. Morgan spent some time getting to know them.

Our first family photo. Hopefully we'll all be feeling more photogenic if we get a professional one done.

We were a little nervous about how Mollie (the dog) would react to having a little sister. We didn't think she'd be agressive, but we were worried that she would jump up or just be too rough. She stayed at the kennel the night Morgan was born, and met her the next day. Her first reaction was to sit (!) and sniff. We were very impressed.

This is a little video of Morgan at 6 days old. It was a few weeks before she was actually smiling in response to us when she was awake, but she had this adorable little grins in her sleep from the beginning. (2.43 MB .mpeg file)

Morgan has a Great Grandpa on my Mom's side (her Great Grandma Meehan missed meeting her by a little over a month) and she spent a little time getting to know her Great Grandma Stuart on my Dad's side.

I think because we see her everyday, we don't realize how much she's changed until we go back and look at old pictures. It's been incredible how fast the time has already gone. This first picture is of Morgan and her Daddy in a dress from Germany.

Laurie and Morgan

These pictures were taken of us both at 5 weeks. We're wearing the same dress, just 29 years apart.
